The Shania Twainsaw Massacre, named after a crossover meme that particularly tickled singer Connie, have gradually been turning the cogs of preparation over the past year. Something has been brewing. It has been a quiet few months since they last unleashed their wall of sound at Strange Brew to support local legends Wych Elm, but they have been busy nonetheless.

The noise is shortly due to start again- double trouble single ‘Roadkill / Room’ is dropping this Friday 22nd March.
‘Room’ has been my favourite of their dyanmic setlist to enjoy live so far, so I am thrilled to see that they have been to Bink Bonk Studios in Redland to have some of Mat Sampson’s production bring it to life. This feels like a match made in sonic heaven, he has captured the sheer brutality of some of the heavier moments in ‘Room’, and appears to have weaved Connie’s airy and peircing vocal of the final section- the juxtaposition of the two strikes me as nearly theatrical. I am so obsessed with this song, and especially its climactic ending- it’s one of those songs that you wish you got to direct the music video for, because of the endless possibilities it conjures.
I believe I have previously described The Twains as the ‘sexiest band in Bristol’, and as there is not enough press coverage YET to quote someone else- I will simply quote myself.
THE SEXIEST BAND IN BRISTOL
Jace, The Bristol Music Journal – 2023
On a more serious note- I also got to spin the flip side of the release ‘Roadkill’ – This song has translated to a recording so very differetly from how I envisioned, but I was blown away. The guitar tone laying down those pinching harmonies in the first verse were making my skin crawl, but in the best possible way. Something about that dissonance just DOES it for me. It probably will for you too, so you should listen to it.
It is another success story of the marriage of this band with Mat Sampson’s production- there is so much space for the song to breathe and keep growing and growing – then drop away completely. THEN COME BACK BIGGER!
This is a theme I particularly enjoy in the bands work so far, and this duo of haunting headbangers hitting the shelves is going to be no different.
